Enigma:
The United States recently
signed a trade agreement with the European Union restricting the use of
placenames to identify wines. Even though our wine is combined with brandy
made from grapes we cannot say that it is "fortified". Nor can we
call it Port, because it is not from the small seaport town of Oporto in
Portugal.
If categorized, it must be labeled as "Dessert
Wine".
But, Enigma is NOT sweet.
The level of alcohol is higher than a red table wine because Brandy distilled
from Cabernet grapes has been added. Enigma is smooth and silky in
the mouth, not hot. But, no matter what you call
it, we still make it in the traditional style we have used for years.
So what do you call it? Even the
question is a puzzle.
Enigma: Toriga
Nacional, Souzo, Syrah and Malbec, aged till caramelized and thick with
richness. Delicious with Dark
chocolate.
